The Best Weekend So Far

It was a weekend to remember for Jordan Weaving as he picked up his highest qualifying position of the season so far before then ending the meeting at Oulton Park in a fantastic sixth placed finish in race two. It was a contrast to how things got underway on Friday for the Briggs Equipment Kawasaki rider as much like the conditions at Silverstone a week earlier, it played havoc with his chances of putting in a blistering lap. The first session was dry and things were progressing nicely for Weaving, but in the second free practice in the afternoon the showers arrived making things less than ideal. However, Weaving remained undeterred and by the end of the day he finished within .5 of a second from the top ten as he prepared for qualifying on Saturday morning. As the session started the following day it soon became clear that the number 34 was to be amongst the quickest riders around the circuit, after just four laps he posted the second quickest time. A number of riders then got their noses ahead and momentarily Weaving dropped to 9th on the timesheets but a blistering lap late in the session saw him move up to 4th place, his best placed qualifying since moving up to the 1000cc class. On Saturday in race one, things didn’t quite go as Weaving had hoped but despite dropping back from his starting position of 4th, he was still to finish in the points. However, such is the ambition of the 20 year old, he wanted more and demanded more from himself and the bike ahead of Sunday’s second race from his starting position of P10. As the lights went out on Sunday that determination came to the fore, and within a couple of laps he was up into the top eight before setting his sights on the top five who were within his grasp. By lap 7 of the 11 lap race, Weaving had slipped past Chrissy Rouse into sixth spot and was aiming for the top five. Despite a valiant effort to burst over the line into fifth, he missed out by a mere 0.1seconds, but Weaving was far from disappointed. “What an end to another really good weekend,” Weaving said. “From getting here on Friday things felt good, the team worked well together as always and we were confident that we would have a good weekend overall. Ian and James looked at things from Friday’s free practice and with their hard work went we into Saturday hopeful of moving closer to the front. “When qualifying started things just clicked, I felt comfortable on the bike and we were so close to getting onto the front row. “On Saturday afternoon, I was a little disappointed to not pick up even more points but I knew that on Sunday we could make a difference, some riders gambled on wet tyres with showers coming and going but we checked the forecast and decided that wouldn’t be the best option and we were proved right. “We’ve progressed a lot in the last two rounds and now with a little break until the last round at Brands, I’ll be working hard on my fitness at the Fifth Dimension Gym and I hope to round off the season with my best result yet.”
